We may share personal information with:

  • Vendors, Consultants, and Other Third-Party Service Providers. We may share your data with third-party vendors, service providers, contractors, or agents (“third parties”) who perform services for us or on our behalf and require access to such information to do that work. The categories of third parties we may share personal information with include:

  • Analytics providers (e.g., Google Analytics)
  • Advertising providers and ad networks (e.g., Google Ads)

When you click an outbound link on our Site to purchase a book, you leave the Site and any personal information you provide to that retailer is collected directly by them under their own privacy policies. Some outbound links may include an affiliate or referral identifier that allows the retailer to attribute the referral to us; we do not transmit your personal information to the retailer through these links.

  • As Required by Law. To comply with legal obligations, protect against fraud, and respond to lawful requests from law enforcement and regulatory authorities.

Affiliates include our parent company and any subsidiaries, joint venture partners, or other companies that we control or that are under common control with us.

Use of Subprocessors

Fun Fan Facts engages certain third-party service providers (“subprocessors”) to support our Site and Services, including our website platform, mailing list provider, analytics provider, advertising provider, and customer relationship management provider. We may add or replace subprocessors as our business needs evolve.

Where we are required to provide notice under applicable law or a specific contractual obligation, we will notify users of such changes directly. By continuing to use the Site, you acknowledge any such changes. If you have questions or concerns about our subprocessors, please contact us at hello@funfanfacts.com.

If you are located in the EU or UK, this section applies to you.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and UK GDPR require us to explain the legal bases we rely on to process your personal information. As such, we may rely on the following legal bases:

  • Consent. We may process your information if you have given us permission (i.e., consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • Performance of a Contract. We may process your personal information when we believe it is necessary to fulfill our contractual obligations to you, including providing our Services or at your request prior to entering into a contract with you.
  • Legitimate Interests. We may process your information when we believe it is reasonably necessary to achieve our legitimate business interests and those interests do not outweigh your interests and fundamental rights and freedoms. For example, we may process your personal information to: send information about our products and offers; develop and display personalized advertising; analyze how the Site is used so we can improve it; support our marketing activities; diagnose problems and prevent fraudulent activities; and understand how users interact with our Site.
  • Legal Obligations. We may process your information where necessary for compliance with our legal obligations, such as cooperating with a law enforcement body or regulatory agency, exercising or defending our legal rights, or disclosing your information as evidence in litigation.
  • Vital Interests. We may process your information where we believe it is necessary to protect your vital interests or the vital interests of a third party.

If you are located in Canada, this section applies to you.

We may process your information if you have given us specific permission (i.e., express consent) to use your personal information for a specific purpose, or in situations where your permission can be inferred (i.e., implied consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time by sending an email to hello@funfanfacts.com.

In some exceptional cases, we may be legally permitted under applicable law to process your information without your consent, including:

  • If collection is clearly in the interests of an individual and consent cannot be obtained in a timely way
  • For investigations and fraud detection and prevention
  • For business transactions provided certain conditions are met
  • If it is contained in a witness statement and the collection is necessary to assess, process, or settle an insurance claim
  • If we have reasonable grounds to believe an individual has been, is, or may be a victim of financial abuse
  • If it is reasonable to expect that collection and use with consent would compromise the availability or accuracy of the information and the collection is reasonable for purposes related to investigating a breach of an agreement or a contravention of the laws of Canada or a province
  • If disclosure is required to comply with a subpoena, warrant, court order, or rules of the court relating to the production of records
  • If the collection is solely for journalistic, artistic, or literary purposes
  • If the information is publicly available and is specified by the regulations

Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law, or unless you request that we delete it.

The specific retention period depends on the nature of the personal information and the reasons for which it was collected. When determining how long to retain personal information, we consider several factors, including: the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the information; the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure; the purposes for processing and whether those purposes can be achieved through other means; and any applicable legal, regulatory, or contractual requirements.

When we no longer have a legitimate business need to process your personal information, we will either delete or anonymize it. If immediate deletion is not possible (for example, because the information is stored in backup archives), we will securely store and isolate it from further processing until deletion becomes feasible. Aggregated, anonymized, or de-identified data may be retained indefinitely.

Information Security

We implement appropriate and reasonable technical, physical, and organizational safeguards to protect your personal information from accidental loss, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include access restrictions, encryption where appropriate, procedural safeguards, and secure data hosting through our service providers.

Access to your personal information is limited to authorized personnel who require it to perform their duties. Our service providers and business partners are contractually obligated to protect personal information and are prohibited from using it for unauthorized purposes.

However, despite our efforts, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized third parties will never be able to defeat our security measures or improperly access, steal, or modify your data. Transmission of personal information to and from the Site is at your own risk.

Data Transfers

Fun Fan Facts is based in the United States and primarily stores data within the United States. Some of our service providers may be located outside the country of your residence, including in countries outside the European Economic Area (EEA), and these countries may not provide the same level of data protection as in your jurisdiction.

For transfers outside regions with strict data protection laws, such as the EU/EEA, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or other legal mechanisms where applicable. By submitting personal data, you consent to this transfer, including any transfers outside your country of residence. If you do not consent, please do not use the Site or submit your data.

Children’s Policy

Our Site and mailing list are intended for a general audience and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect, solicit data from, or market to children under 13 years of age. By using the Site, you represent that you are at least 13, or that you are a parent or guardian providing such information on behalf of a minor.

If we learn that personal information from a user under 13 has been collected, we will take reasonable measures to promptly delete it from our records. If you believe we may have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at hello@funfanfacts.com.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • Right to Access. You have the right to access your personal information. If required by law, upon request, we will grant you reasonable access to the personal information that we have about you.
  • Right to Rectification. You have the right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to Erasure. You have the right to request the deletion of your data under certain conditions.
  • Right to Restrict Processing. You have the right to limit the use of your data in specific scenarios.
  • Right to Data Portability. You have the right to receive your data in a machine-readable format to enable transfer to another service provider.
  • Right to Object. You have the right to object to the processing of your data for specific purposes, such as direct marketing or automated decision-making. Verification of identity may be required to process requests.
  • Right Not to Be Subject to Automated Decision-Making. You have the right not to be subject to decisions based solely on automated processing, including profiling, which produces legal or similarly significant effects concerning you.

To exercise any of the above rights, please email hello@funfanfacts.com. We will consider and act upon any request in accordance with applicable data protection laws.

If you are located in the EEA or UK and you believe we are unlawfully processing your personal information, you also have the right to complain to your Member State data protection authority or UK data protection authority. If you are located in Switzerland, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

Withdrawing your consent: If we are relying on your consent to process your personal information, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us at hello@funfanfacts.com. This will not affect the lawfulness of the processing before its withdrawal nor, when applicable law allows, will it affect the processing of your personal information conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.

Opting out of marketing communications: You can unsubscribe from our marketing communications at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the emails we send or by emailing us at hello@funfanfacts.com. You will then be removed from our marketing lists. However, we may still communicate with you for non-marketing purposes (for example, to respond to a service request).

Controls for Do-Not-Track Features

Most web browsers and some mobile operating systems include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) feature or setting you can activate to signal your privacy preference not to have data about your online browsing activities monitored and collected. At this stage, no uniform technology standard for recognizing and implementing DNT signals has been finalized. As such, we do not currently respond to DNT browser signals or any other mechanism that automatically communicates your choice not to be tracked online. If a standard for online tracking is adopted that we must follow in the future, we will inform you about that practice in a revised version of this Privacy Notice.

California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser DNT signals. Because there currently is not an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we do not respond to them at this time. We do, however, honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where required by applicable law, as described in the Supplemental U.S. State Privacy Rights Statement below.

Updates to this Privacy Notice

We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by an updated “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Notice. If we make material changes to this Privacy Notice, we may notify you either by prominently posting a notice of such changes or by directly sending you a notification. We encourage you to review this Privacy Notice frequently.

Additionally, subject to any exemptions provided by law, you may have certain rights regarding the personal information we maintain about you. We offer you certain choices about what personal information we collect from you, how we use that information, and how we communicate with you. If at any time you wish to exercise your rights, please reach out to us in accordance with the “Contact Us” section below.

Under the GDPR, UK GDPR, and FADP, you have the following rights:

  • Right of Access. If you ask us, we will confirm whether we are processing your personal information and, if so, provide you with a copy of that personal information along with certain other details. If you require additional copies, we may charge a reasonable fee.
  • Right to Rectification. If your personal information is inaccurate or incomplete, you may be entitled to ask that we correct or complete it.
  • Right to Erasure. You may ask us to erase your personal information in some circumstances, such as where we no longer need it, or you withdraw your consent (where applicable) and there is no other legal basis for processing.
  • Right to Restrict Processing. You may ask us to restrict or ‘block’ the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances, such as if you contest its accuracy or object to us processing it.
  • Right to Data Portability. You may have the right to obtain your personal information from us that you consented to give us or that was provided to us as necessary in connection with our contract with you, where the processing is carried out by automated means.
  • Right to Object. You may ask us at any time to stop processing your personal information, and we will do so: (a) if we are relying on a legitimate interest to process your personal information, unless we demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing or your data is needed to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims; or (b) if we are processing your personal information for direct marketing.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent. If we rely on your consent to process your personal information, you may withdraw that consent at any time, but this will not affect any processing of your data that has already taken place.
  • Right to Lodge a Complaint. If you have a concern about our privacy practices, including the way we handled your personal information, you can report it to the data protection authority that is authorized to hear those concerns.

Please note that the above rights are not absolute, and we may be entitled to refuse requests, wholly or partly, where exceptions under applicable law apply. We will not discriminate against you for exercising such rights.

Except as described in this Notice or provided for under applicable privacy laws, there is no charge to exercise your legal rights. However, if your requests are manifestly unfounded or excessive, we may charge a reasonable fee taking into account the administrative costs of providing the information or taking the action requested, or refuse to act on the request and notify you of the reason for refusing.

Complaints. In the event you have concerns about our data processing, you have the right to file a complaint with your data protection authority:

We would, however, appreciate the opportunity to deal with your concerns before you approach a data protection authority with a complaint, and invite you to contact us in the first instance.

Contact: If you have any questions or concerns with regard to this Privacy Notice, or you wish to exercise any rights described herein, please contact us via email at hello@funfanfacts.com.

This Supplemental U.S. State Privacy Rights Statement describes those rights and explains how eligible residents may exercise them. This section supplements the information provided in our Privacy Notice.

For purposes of this section, “personal information” has the meaning assigned under applicable state privacy laws and does not include publicly available information, de-identified information, or aggregated information as defined by those laws.

Your Rights

Subject to applicable law and verification of your identity, residents of certain U.S. states may have the following rights:

  • Right to Know / Access. You may request confirmation of whether we process your personal information and request access to the personal information we have collected about you.
  • Right to Data Portability. You may request a copy of your personal information in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily usable format.
  • Right to Correction. You may request that we correct inaccuracies in your personal information, taking into account the nature of the information and the purposes of processing it.
  • Right to Deletion. You may request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain legal exceptions.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Sale, Sharing, or Targeted Advertising. You may have the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information (as defined under applicable law); the sharing of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; and the processing of your personal information for targeted advertising purposes. We recognize and honor legally required universal opt-out mechanisms, including Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals, where required by applicable law.
  • Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information. Where applicable, you may have the right to limit our use and disclosure of sensitive personal information to purposes permitted by law. As noted above, we do not process sensitive personal information through the Site.
  • Right to Opt-Out of Profiling / Automated Decision-Making. Where applicable, you may have the right to opt out of certain types of automated decision-making or profiling that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

Exercising Your Rights. You may make a verifiable request to exercise your privacy rights by contacting us via email at hello@funfanfacts.com.

Please note that the above rights depend on a few things, and we may refuse requests if there are exceptions under the applicable law. If we cannot verify you (or your authority to act on behalf of another person) we have the right to deny the request. While verifying your identity, we generally avoid requesting additional information from you for verification purposes. If, however, we cannot verify your identity from the information already maintained by us, we may request additional information from you, which shall only be used to verify your identity, and for security or fraud-prevention purposes. We delete any new personal information collected for verification as soon as practical after processing your request, except as required to comply with applicable legislation.

An “authorized agent” means a natural person or a business entity registered with the Secretary of State that you have authorized to act on your behalf, provided you have (a) provided the authorized agent written permission to do so, and we can verify this; and (b) verified your own identity directly with us. The foregoing does not apply when you have provided the authorized agent with a valid power of attorney.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. However, certain disclosures of personal information to advertising or analytics partners (including through cookies and similar technologies, such as Google Ads) may be considered a “sale,” “sharing,” or “targeted advertising” under applicable U.S. state privacy laws.

You may opt out of these activities by:

  • Adjusting your cookie preferences through the cookie banner on our Site
  • Enabling Global Privacy Control (GPC) or another legally recognized universal opt-out mechanism, which we honor where required by applicable law
  • Submitting a request to hello@funfanfacts.com

When a valid GPC signal is detected, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and targeted advertising, where required by law.
